Health Risk of Smoking real Cigarettes Vs Electronic Cigarettes

Currently, let’s just that there is no conclusive evidence to suggest the safety or harm of these cigarettes, and many states in the US are still unable to ban these cigarettes completely.

But speaking in broad terms, e-cigarettes may satisfy nicotine cravings for a chain smoker, and they may be less harmful than their regular counterparts. In fact, it is extremely important for you to know that the regular cigarette you use contains 19 carcinogens, such as:

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons
  • Acrolein
  • Nitrosamines

Here are some facts about tobacco cigarettes that can influence your decision to switch to e-cigarettes:

  • Tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable deaths in the world
  • Tobacco has caused over 100 million deaths in the last century
  • Tobacco use leads to various diseases that affect the heart, liver, and lungs
  • Smoking tobacco increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, chronic obtrusive pulmonary disease (COPD)
  • Smoking also causes cancer, especially lung cancer, cancer of the larynx and mouth, and pancreatic cancer
  • It also causes peripheral vascular disease and hypertension

One of the greatest dangers of tobacco cigarettes is secondhand smoke (SHS) or environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). This is the smoke emitted from the lighted end of the cigarette/pipe/cigar and also the smoke exhaled by the user.

When non-smokers inhale SHS, it is called involuntary smoking or more popularly, passive smoking. The danger here is that non-smokers also breathe in nicotine and toxic chemicals.

What many smokers don’t realize is that SHS is also a carcinogen (cancer-causing agent) linked to lung cancer and cancers of the:

  • Larynx (voice box)
  • Pharynx
  • Brain
  • Bladder
  • Rectum
  • Stomach
  • Breast

The statistics related to medical conditions and deaths caused by SHS are staggering. Electronic cigarettes on the other hand do not have any smoke at all and therefore there is no threat of environmental smoke.

Many times the opponents of e-cigarettes have tried to popularize the term passive vaping, claiming that vapors released by e-cigarettes will affect the atmosphere in the same way tobacco smoke does.

However, we do know that e-cigarettes do not contain the same toxins and carcinogens found in tobacco-based cigarettes, and this diminishes any force in the passive vaping argument.
